Taaleri’s private equity fund specialising in the circular economy aroused considerable interest among Taaleri clients, and the fund’s fund-raising has been completed successfully. In six weeks, the fund collected investment commitments from over 360 investors worth MEUR 40.
Taaleri Kiertotalous Ky (Taaleri Circular Economy) is the world’s first private equity fund focusing on the circular economy concept, combining financial targets and sustainable benefits to the environment. Impact investments are a rising trend in the investment sector. In addition to yield, investors want to influence public affairs by furthering with their equity values they consider important, such as environmental matters.
“The circular economy is modern-age materialism and a prime example of the union of the economy and the environment. It understands the value of matter throughout the life cycle. The circular economy is about the smart use of resources and a sustainable solution for combining economic growth, globally limited resources and the waste and pollution problem,” says Taaleri Investment Director Tero Luoma.
The fund has chosen its first investment targets, which are Volter Oy, Ecomation Oy and Suomen Tärpätti Oy. Volter specialises in manufacturing small-scale power plants, which transform wood chips into heat and electricity. The company’s turnover is generated almost exclusively on international markets. Ecomation has a treatment plant based on pyrolysis technology, which processes tyres, rubber and plastic and, from them, produces oil, coal, metals and gas. Suomen Tärpätti will invest in a turpentine plant in Rauma and aims to gain a 10% market share on the global wood-based turpentine markets.
The fund makes private equity investments in companies and individual production plants. The investment targets form a balanced combination of growth companies, established businesses and cash flow-based asset items.
“We invest in Finnish companies and targets. Especially we focus on three themes: renewable energy, recycling and materials handling, and energy-saving solutions,” says Tero Luoma.
